IN London x Michael Kors Spring 2017 Collection

When Michael Kors presented his Spring 2017 Michael Kors Collection at New York Fashion Week last September, models were seen channelling a powerfully romantic aesthetic as they walked the runway.

Bold, floral-print jumpsuits and summer dresses were interspersed with strong tailoring seen in oversized trench coats and wide cropped trousers, while for men the look was just as relaxed – shirt cuffs were worn long and undone and trousers were kept loose and languid.

An edited selection from this collection is now available to buy in the Michael Kors flagship boutique on Regent Street, a fact IN London is celebrating with an exclusive shoot styled by Thea Lewis-Yates, our fashion director-at-large, and photographed by Brian Daly.

Sabina Savage Unveils SS17 Collection

We fell in love with the intricate, delicate designs of Sabina Savage's scarves when we featured her in our recent winter edition – each pattern hand drawn with incredible care by Savage herself, often spending up to six weeks on each design before they are printed on to silk, wool and cashmere by artisans in Como, Italy. Since then we have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Savage's SS17 collection, which is out now – featuring an exquisite range of scarves dubbed 'Alchemie Chinoiserie' – depicting the story of a bid for freedom made by the specimens of a Chinese alchemist's cabinet:

"In an alchemist’s repository in Peking, three wooden specimen chests lie untouched by time. Old kimonos lie discarded around them; ribbons of silk tattered and forgotten. Once a store for rare ingredients, the room has been still for over a century; Until now.
As the lid of each chest slowly prises open, a flurry of moths disperse and rain soft dust around the room. An elegant wing steadily releases itself, and as the lid of the first chest drops back, two golden crowned heads delicately appear, glad to stretch their long graceful necks after all these years locked away. Slowly and cautiously, a pair of glowing green eyes flickers in the shadows, and then another. Two ornate clouded leopards thrust open the lid of their ancient chest and begin a swirling struggle amongst the bones and trinkets of their isolation. The third chest begins to rattle and shake, and a flock of shimmering blue kingfishers struggle against their tethers as they try to burst free. The Tibetan Antelope calmly looks on, rousing herself from a long sleep."

Inspired by a variety of visual imagery, from the ornate costumes of the Chinese Opera to the eclectic work of artist Ron Pippin, the collection features a menagerie of beautifully-observed animals including Golden Crested Cranes, Kingfishers, Clouded Leopards and Tibetan Antelopes. In addition to this, to celebrate the new season, Savage has also released AW16's Circo Libre collection in silk twill for the warmer months. For the perfect, timeless summer accessory, Sabina Savage's beautiful scarves are the perfect investment.

Akris launches capsule collection in honour of the Year of the Rooster

On January 28, Chinese New Year heralds in the Year of the Rooster – one of 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. Apparently this is deemed to be a year marked by progress, honour and integrity, and some say people will be more polite and less stubborn.

Whatever your zodiac sign, anyone with style sense can enjoy the Limited Edition Capsule Collection from Akris, marking the Year of the Red Fire Rooster. Creative director Albert Kriemler, always a man with innovation and inspiration, has specially developed a new handbag and two scarves.

The Rooster Ai tote bag is reversible, in cervo calf and soft calf leather, dominated by a striking cut-out silhouette of a rooster’s head with its comb. The design is inspired by the Swiss graphic design from the 1920s – the decade in which Akris was founded. The handbag is limited to a total of just 58; the numbers 5 and 8 are two lucky numbers for 2017, and are embossed in each bag. With shoulder handles, there is a detachable mirror charm with rooster embossing, and a detachable two-colour zip pouch. The silk scarves, measuring 140cm x 140cm, likewise capture the rooster’s vivid colours, especially his feathers, and show off his beauty and pride.

Whether the West of the East, the rooster symbolises energy and confidence, heralding the new day with the light of the sun. Such symbolism is apt for this latest capsule collection from Akris, and best demonstrates Kriemler’s superlative use of colour and image. “It is a style that pursues simplicity, and I wanted to create a cute and endearing expression for it,” said the creative director.

Michael Kors introduces wearable tech that is as fashionable as it is functional

The march of wearable technology continues apace as we lead ever more connected lives. But, the tech you choose to adorn your wrist with needn’t be purely functional. Thanks to Michael Kors and its recently introduced ACCESS line, fashion-forward wearable tech is now a reality.

Having partnered with Google to utilise its Android Wear operating system, the Michael Kors Access smartwatch allows the wearer to enjoy a whole host of functions packaged in a stylish accessory. The fashionable look is provided via interchangeable leather and silicone straps as well as a watch face that changes with a swipe of the finger – from a digital chronograph one moment to a shimmering embellished pavé scene the next.

Compatible with both iPhone and Android phones, the touchscreen display helps users keep track of their social media platforms, providing updates, text and email alerts, as well as app notifications. The voice command, meanwhile, helps you search the web – ideal if you’re navigating a big city such as London and require directions. However, perhaps the most exciting function for any gym bunny is that the smartwatch provides in-built fitness tracking, making it the perfect gift for those with fitness goals on their list of New Year’s resolutions.

However, the smartwatch isn’t the only addition to Michael Kors’ technology offering. Looking more like a piece of jewellery, the new selection of Activity Trackers lets users keep note of the total number of steps, calories, distance travelled and sleep patterns. Powered by a coin cell battery, removing the need for a charger, the Activity Tracker also syncs with the user's phone via the Michael Kors LINK feature – controlling music or taking a photo has never been so easy.

But, for those who still like taking photos and achieving instant, printable results, check out Michael Kors’ collaboration with Fujifilm. The limited edition Michael Kors x Fujifilm Instax Mini 70 camera comes in bold metallic gold and features a special selfie mode that adjusts automatically to ensure everyone looks picture perfect.

Marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the House of Dior, Maison Assouline has launched a series of seven exquisite books – each devoted to a different designer that has worked for the world-famous couture house – from Yves Saint Laurent and Marc Bohan through to current head of design Maria Grazia Chiuri. Together with author Olivier Saillard, the pair have delved into the archives of Dior's illustrious history to unearth some of the brand's most groundbreaking garments, ranging from the seminal premiere spring/summer 1947 collection famously dubbed the 'New Look' through to the final Fuseau line presented for fall/winter 1957. Conserved in some of the world's most iconic museums and cultural institutions, each piece has been photographed exclusively for the new publication, providing unprecedented insight into the development of one of the world's most revered fashion brands.

Rain starts play with Hunter Original

The start of the winter months can sometimes feel a tad dreary in London, characterised by the steady encroach of grey skies, icy winds and endless rain showers. However, the approach of wet weather has begun to seem like a much less miserable prospect thanks to an upbeat new campaign from Hunter Original. Commandeering screens across the underground and even the iconic giant billboards at Piccadilly Circus, the videos have slowly become a highlight of team IN London's commute, featuring a series of models kitted out in a range of bright colours from the brand, dancing in defiance of London's grey weather. In celebration of Hunter's relationship with rain, the campaign is entitled #RainStartsPlay, featuring a kaleidoscope of Hunter products that can keep you dry – from the brand's iconic wellies, through to vinyl ponchos and rubberised hunting coats. We popped into the brand's Regent Street store a few days ago, and fell in love with the rubberised leather backpacks (which we were told are flying off the shelves in pink shades) –  brilliant for keeping your belongings dry.
