Wandering around London admiring the city's elaborate Christmas shop windows has become our favourite hobby lately. So far we've been enchanted by everything from Burberry's wooden nutcracker soldiers on Regent Street to Liberty's giant dolls house, but this year Harrods has out done itself with a series of theatre themed windows featuring ballet dancers, acrobats and strongmen performing for passers by. Echoing the store's 'Once Upon a Christmas' theme, the windows also reveal a hidden world of magical Christmas mice beneath the floorboards, preparing for their own mouse-sized festivities. Each window was raised 60cm by the store's visual merchandising team to make way for the underfloor theatre scenes, directly at a child's eye level. Our favourite installation has to be the oversized gingerbread house created by Rosalind Miller. At nearly two metres tall and three metres wide, 40kg of gingerbread was used to create the house, taking 33 hours to bake and requiring 20 hours of hand-piping. Amazing!
With all this festive feeling, thoughts now turn to transforming our own homes into a winter wonderland. Fortunately, Harrods has some beautiful baubles and decorations on offer to make your home sparkle. Here are our favourites:
