Curating luxury for the discerning traveller

24 Hours with Emma Hoareau

“I work freelance but I like to have a routine. Each day, I get up at 7am and make myself a cleansing mint tea before I do anything else. Most days I also spray Aveda Chakra™ 4 Balancing Body Mist – it focuses on the ‘heart’ chakra, which promotes love and empathy; it enables me to wake up in the best possible mood.

Once I’m fully awake, I start to get ready for the day ahead. If I’m going to an event, I’ll apply my favourite sheet mask – Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery PowerFoil Mask – which, thanks to a generous dose of hyaluronic acid, gives me a glow that lasts all day. Beauty routines are often so rushed, but with a mask you can allow yourself (and your skin) a little time to relax. While it’s working its magic I use the Headspace app to meditate for 10 minutes – I find it stops stress getting the better of me.

After an invigorating shower, I like to apply the product I can’t live without: La Mer The Illuminating Eye Gel. Eyes are the first place to show signs of ageing, so I think it’s really important to invest in a good eye product. After that, I apply Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil before my make-up as I find it gives me a healthy, dewy finish. As part of my morning routine, I like to take care of the inside as much as the outside, so I always make myself a banana and raspberry smoothie and take vitamin supplements – zinc, vitamins D and B, and Omega-3; a huge helping hand in looking radiant. Then, throughout the day, I stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and using Clinique Moisture Surge™ Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief  – I find it freshens up my make-up and gets me back in the moment when I’ve been staring at a screen for too long.

One of my favourite things to do in the evening is take off my make-up. Not because I don’t like wearing it but because I find it so satisfying to cleanse my face after a long day – it’s such an important self-care ritual. I find the best way to take everything off is by using a cleansing oil like Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil. Once I’ve rubbed it into the skin I’ll wash it off with a warm muslin cloth. I follow this with La Mer The Cleansing Micellar Water on a cotton pad to remove excess residue. After that, I layer up Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II with Darphin Lumière Essentielle Illuminating Oil Gel-Cream – many skin problems are the result of dehydration so I like to make sure I’m paying mine due diligence.

At 10pm it’s time for bed. Rest is so important and scent can change my mood very easily, so I love to light a candle – either Le Labo Santal 26 or Jo Malone London Pomegranate Noir – to help me relax. Beauty genuinely does come from the inside; feeling well in your mind and body can have such a hugely positive impact on everything else.”
