This year’s tree, ‘A Christmas Dream’, resembles a particularly playful take on the traditional Christmas tree. Hall designed the tree complete with hundreds of colourful lights, vintage baubles and oversized decorations. Dressed live by Hall on the 18th of November for passers-by to witness, the tree will be draped with bows, tinsel and his own giant cut-out illustrations, creating a magnificent display. The crowning glory of the installation is a majestic golden galleon, which to Luke represents the notion of drifting off into a dream, or being taken to a magical land. Reaching almost twenty-feet, in the grand Georgian lobby of the hotel, the tree and its whimsically oversized decorations, is intended to impress and dwarf guests who gaze upon it from a position of child-like wonder.
The tree connects through into The London EDITION’s destination restaurant, Berners Tavern, decorated with a display of Hall’s ceramic vases filled with beautifully scented winter foliage, adding to the overall joyful atmosphere. With the Christmas tree at its centre, The London EDITION’s Lobby Bar is the perfect festive destination this winter, featuring a roaring fire, billiards table and intimate seating areas for guests to gather and celebrate with friends and family.
Luke Edward Hall says of his design, “my Christmas tree of The London EDITION is a riot of colour and theatrical ornament which I hope will invoke the joy of Christmas in all its glittery, shimmering wonder.” The Christmas tree is in the lobby of the hotel and will be on display until the New Year.
