February Theatre: For the best in theatre this month, look no further than these productions, says Liz Granirer

TOUCHING THE VOID
To 29 February

This critically acclaimed theatrical adaptation of Joe Simpson’s bestselling memoir follows his harrowing experience during an expedition to the Siula Grande mountain in the Peruvian Andes with climbing partner, Simon Yates. During the descent, Joe breaks his leg in a fall and Simon attempts to lower him with ropes, not seeing the danger he is putting his fellow climber in. Simon then understands that they will both perish unless he cuts himself loose from Joe…

CYRANO DE BERGERAC
To 29 February

A chance to see James McAvoy perform on stage shouldn’t be missed. He has a string of movie credits (including four X-Men films, Atonement and The Last King of Scotland), TV shows (Shameless, His Dark Materials) and a number of theatre performances to his name. Now he takes on the role of the tortured Cyrano, who almost has it all, except for the heart of his true love. Why? Because of his enormous nose. Will narcissism be his ruin – or can he win Roxanne with his words?
